18. FROST: PORTRAIT
OF A VAMPIRE

They were best friends until one of them died.
Now they're enemies

Released: 2003
Director: Kevin VanHook (The Fallen Ones, Death Row)
Starring: Gary Busey, Jeff Manzanares, Charles Lister and Karen Bailey.

The synopsis goes something like this ...

Two mercenaries, best of friends, are hired by the United States Government to 'take care' of assignments that are too dirty for the regular agencies. However, on their latest mission Jack Frost (Manzanares) gets attacked by what the locals refer to as a 'vampire demon'. His friend Nat (Lister), believing that Jack has been killed, goes out to find the truth and avenge his friend's death. He finds Jack, and Jack is still alive, but now he's an evil vampire, and the two friends are forced to fight it out till the end.

Something to sink your teeth into ...

The director with the name that makes sound like he is from the Dutch version of Peter Pan, VanHook, is a visual effects expert who has directed a few films and actually created the character of Frost the vampire for a comic about a decade before bringing him to life on the small screen for straight-to-DVD purposes. Judging by the reaction to the movie, he may have been better served leaving him there, or handing over the directing reins.
