Michael Landon as a Teenage Werewolf

1957 | I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF

Explosive! Amazing! Terrifying!
You won't believe your eyes!

Genre: Drama/Horror
Director: Gene Fowler Jnr (I Married A Monster From Outer Space, Showdown at Boot Hill).
Starring: Michael Landon as Tony Rivers aka The Teenage Werewolf, Yvonne Fedderson as Arlene Logan and Whit Bissell as Dr. Alfred Brandon.

The synopsis goes something like this ...
Long before he was strapping guns to his waist on Bonanza, living on a Little House on the Prairie or traveling on a Highway to Heaven, Landon was the original 'teen wolf', Tony Rivers. He's a James Dean-esque rebel who seeks hypnotherapy to help him sort out his problems, but winds up being the guinea pig in his doctor's mad scientist-type experiments which turn him into a teenage werewolf, a rebel with claws.

Something to sink your teeth into ...
A massive success at the box-office making a $2million profit (big numbers for its time), the film is renowned as being the first to use the campy 'I Was A Teenage ...' in its title. I Was A Teenage Frankenstein (1958) followed and then a host of others over the next five decades, including I Was A Teenage TV Terrorist (1985) and I Was A Teenage Serial Killer (1992). Landon paid homage to his 'teenage' roots by writing and directing an episode of Highway to Heaven in 1987 called I Was A Middle-Aged Werewolf.

IMDb Rating: 4.1
