1996 | BAD MOON

Half man. Half wolf. Total terror.

Genre: Horror
Director: Eric Red (Cohen and Tate, Body Parts).
Starring: Mariel Hemingway as Janet, Michael Paré as Uncle Ted and Mason Gamble as Brett.

The synopsis goes something like this ...
Pare's photojournalist, Ted, and his girlfriend are attacked by a werewolf while he is on assignment in Nepal, killing her and seriously injuring him. Returning to the US, Ted initially lives in isolation so he can deal with his lycanthropy alone, but then accepts an invitation from his sister, Janet (Hemmingway) to move in with her and her son, Brett (Gamble). Their pet German Shepherd, Thor, doesn't take to kindly to the new house guest however.

Something to sink your teeth into ...
The film is based on the novel Thor by Wayne Smith, which tells the story from the dog Thor's viewpoint. The first reader review for the film on the IMDb website is from Smith himself. It's a fascinating read, the author explaining that he found the movie watchable if not outstanding, but was disturbed by certain changes to the story. Suffice to say he would not collaborate with the director again. Red did write the screenplay for the little gem that is the original Hitcher (1986).

IMDb Rating: 4.9
