An American Werewolf in London (1981)

1981 | AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF
.........IN LONDON

The director of Animal House brings
you a different kind of animal!

Genre: Horror/Comedy
Director: John Landis (Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Three Amigos).
Starring: David Naughton as David Kessler aka The Werewolf, Jenny Agutter as Nurse Alex Price and Griffin Dunne as Jack Goodman.

The synopsis goes something like this ...
Two American backpackers bite off more than they can chew when they go strolling through the moors of England one night. Despite being warned to "beware the moon" and "keep to the roads", they take a slight detour and are attacked by a werewolf. One, Jack (Dunne), is killed, later becoming a reanimated corpse, while the other, David (Naughton), is mauled, later becoming a werewolf ... and sometimes cross-dresser. Letting his animal instincts take hold, David not only falls in love with his nurse, but also the taste of Londoner flesh.

An American Werewolf in London What big teeth you have

Something to sink your teeth into ...
Rick Baker quite rightly won an Academy Award for Best Make-Up for his job of turning star Naughton into the hairy beast. It still stands up well in today's world of overused CGI effects, as we got almost every stretch and contortion of the transformation. The final look of the werewolf was apparently based on Baker's dog Bosko. Interestingly, studio executives were said to be hopeful director Landis would cast his Blues Brothers Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as David and Jack respectively, but he refused.

IMDb Rating: 7.5
